Bringing Your Own Rifle to South Africa

International hunters are welcome to bring their own firearms. You’ll need to complete a Temporary Firearm Import Permit (SAP 520) either before arrival or upon entry into South Africa.

Documents Required:

  • Completed SAP 520 Form (available online)
  • Passport copy
  • Flight itinerary
  • Proof of rifle ownership (e.g. U.S. Form 4457)
  • Invitation letter from Hunters Prey Safaris (provided upon booking)

Renting a Rifle from Us

Prefer not to travel with a firearm? We offer rifle hire at $50 per day, with ammunition available at $4 per bullet. Our rifles are professionally maintained and carefully matched to the terrain and game species you’ll encounter. If you’re hiring a rifle, we recommend practising with a similar calibre before travelling.

Bow Hunters Welcome

Bow hunting is available—just let us know in advance so we can ensure the proper setup and tracking support for your hunt.

Equipment Overview: Fully Prepared for Your Adventure

Whether you bring your own gear or rent from us, we ensure you’re ready for the hunt ahead. Our rifle hire options and fishing equipment are field-tested and maintained to the highest standards. We also cater for bow hunters—please note, bow equipment is not available for hire and must be supplied by the hunter.
