Africa’s prime hunting months are from February  to October, but some hunters prefer quieter periods just before or after peak season.

We operate year-round, but the prime hunting months are from February to October. These cooler, drier months provide better visibility and animal activity.

February – May: Comfortable temperatures, great game movement.
June –August: Excellent hunting, but chilly mornings. Pack accordingly for cooler months.
September–October: Warming up, ideal for late-season safaris.

Fly into O.R. Tambo International Airport (Johannesburg). From there – you can take a domestic flight to East London 1hr 40min), then transfer by road (approx. 2 hours to our lodge. We’ll assist with guidance on travel planning once your booking is confirmed.

After confirming your safari, you’ll receive a Reservation Document detailing your package, dates, terms, and inclusions. On arrival at the lodge, you’ll be required to complete a short indemnity form before your hunt begins.

The Eastern Cape is malaria-free year-round, but it’s still a good idea to speak with your doctor. Common recommended vaccinations include:

  • Hepatitis A & B
  • Typhoid
  • Tetanus
  • Rabies (optional)

Consult your doctor before travel. Let us know about any medical conditions or medications in advance so we can prepare accordingly.

While we don’t offer in-house taxidermy, we work closely with trusted local specialists who are highly experienced in preparing and exporting trophies for international hunters.

Your trophies will be expertly field-prepared and made available for collection by the taxidermist of your choice. We recommend African Wildlife Artistry, based in Somerset East, Eastern Cape.

African Wildlife Artistry is a family-run studio founded in 2010 by Rudolph and Caroline Ferreira. Rudolph, a qualified taxidermist trained in Helena, Montana (USA), brings a lifetime of outdoor experience and artistic skill to each piece.

Their services include:

  • Mounting of game animals, birds, and reptiles
  • Dip & pack and tanning of flat skins
  • Custom-built shipping crates to minimise shipping costs
  • Full handling of export documentation
  • Worldwide delivery

To help you prepare, here’s a recommended packing list of essentials. Remember, laundry services are available at the lodge, so you can pack light.

Travel Documents & Essentials

  • Valid passport (must be valid for 6 months from entry with at least 2 blank pages)
  • Copies of your passport and important documents
  • Travel insurance documents
  • Prescribed personal medications
  • Alarm clock or phone with alarm
  • Diary or journal
  • Electricity converter (SA uses 220V)

Clothing

  • 2 pairs of dark khaki or camo trousers
  • 2 long-sleeved dark khaki or camo shirts
  • 2 short-sleeved dark khaki or camo shirts
  • Comfortable walking shoes/boots
  • Thermal underwear
  • Warm socks
  • Warm jacket
  • Gloves
  • Dark/camo cap or hat
  • Layered clothing for cool mornings and warm afternoons
